Number 8: Donkey Kong Country.

The glory that is Donkey Kong country. The DK series was the first revolutionary game to show off CGI graphics. The gamplay was flawless, the graphics were beautiful at the time and even the soundtrack was remarkable. This game was sure memorable and brought new life to Donkey Kong.
Number 7: Metal Slug Series

Metal Slug an insane console arcade platform by SNK. Released in 1996 the game was widely known for its crazy humor, fluid hand drawn animation and fact paced two-player action. Battle through zombies, tanks, helicopters, mummies, submarines, and many many more. Metal Slug, Metal Slug X, Metal Slug 3, Metal Slug 4, Metal Slug 5, Metal Slug 6 and Metal Slug 7. Number 6: Ninja Gaiden Series

A ninja name Ryu Hayabusa. Ninja Gaiden for NES had cinematic cut scenes, the introduction of the Shuriken, Ninja Arts, and for it’s insane difficulty. What do you expect from a ninja? Ninja Gaiden released three solid games on the NES.
Number 5: 19xx Airplane Shooter Series(vertical scrolling)

The first vertical scrolling shooter of it’s kind, it brought other copy cats to the arcade such as Raiden, and Aerofighters. Fly through the skies as enemy fly down in tight formations trying to shoot you down or your buddy. Capcom released 1942, 1943 and 1944 in the late and mid 80’s. You can buy a version of this 1942 on the Playstation store.
Number 4: Castlevania Series

Konami released Castlevania for the NES back in 1987. The story was about the struggles between the Belmont clan and the vampire lord Dracula. It’s your job to seek out Dracula and finish him off, but Medusa, mummies, vampire bats, Frankenstein and even the Grim Reaper are in your way. Castlevania lives on and evolved on the SNES, Nintendo DS, and PlayStation which some consider classics. Can never get enough of half naked men whipping stuff with flying daggers and axes at your disposal.
Number 3: Mega Man X Series

30 years after the Mega Man Series, robots are now able to think on their own free will. A virus ran rapid among the robots and these robots were called Mavericks, these robots lead by Sigma causing chaos in the world. It’s up to you as X and your Maverick Hunter leader Zero to save the earth. Mega Man X was revolutionary game with the addition of dash, and wall climbing as well as amazing armor upgrade, in which the original Mega Man Series did not have. Mega Man X series ran from SNES Mega Man X to Playstion Mega Man X8.
Number 2: Super Mario Bros.

Everyone’s favorite turtle stomping, mallet smashing, goomba steppn, bullet dodging, yoshi riding, princess saving plumber, sits at the number 2 spot. Mario’s greatness starts from the Orginal NES to Super Mario World on the SNES, and finally the DS New Super Mario Bros.
Number 1: Contra Series

The most memorable side scrolling game of all time. CONTRA! Everyone knew the secret code, eveyone loved the sound track, everyone loved the power ups, and everyone knows CONTRA. Contra released 8 different games over the past 2 decades, mediocre games at most, but the original Contra made co up, side scrolling games, and blasting enemy soldiers with your spray gun makes Contra the most memorable side scrolling series of all time.
